You'd think a mic would work like the headset but noooo.

Only one called sound, to which there's a tab called recording under which it says no audio devices installed.

If it doesn't work see if you can get a screencap of your Control Panel menu

I mean i realize that it's an obvious thing but you never know...and yes restarting may help but Then If you weren't given a software CD then an alternate if trying to find the software online and downloading it. Ussually installation if for webcams. I don't think he's using Windows 7 that would help since it detects it automatically but my old laptop was windows XP never had any issues so I don't know, I guess it might depend on the mic?
